Dr. Mitchell McDowell, a Board Certified Orthopedic Surgeon and Osteopathic Physician, possesses advanced Fellowship training in Adult Reconstruction of the hip and knee. He co-founded M Bone and Joint and currently serves as the Chief Executive Officer. Originally from Southern California, Dr. McDowell earned his undergraduate degree with Howard Hughes Medical Institute Honors from California State University Long Beach, conducting research in molecular cell biology. He later achieved his medical degree from the Western University of Health Sciences College of Osteopathic Medicine, which expanded his knowledge of the musculoskeletal system, somatic dysfunction, and non-surgical treatment options for musculoskeletal disorders.
Completing his residency at Riverside University Health System, including rotations at Kaiser Permanente and Children's Hospital of Orange County, Dr. McDowell pursued an Adult Reconstruction Fellowship at Rush University Medical Center and Central DuPage Hospital. This fellowship was esteemed by the U.S. News and World Report, receiving the highest possible rating for knee and hip replacement procedures. For eight years before founding M Bone and Joint, Dr. McDowell practiced in Southern California, garnering recognition as an award-winning surgeon, mentor, and researcher with numerous publications and presentations at national conferences. He has extensive experience in orthopedic trauma (broken bones) in addition to Adult Reconstruction of the hip and knee. Dr. McDowell currently holds the position of Associate Clinical Professor of Orthopedic Surgery at both the University of California Riverside and Western University of Health Sciences.
Dr. McDowell's practice focuses on primary and revision total joint arthroplasty, boasting extensive expertise in minimally invasive hip and knee replacements. He is certified in various surgical robotic techniques, including MAKO and ROSA. Dr. McDowell actively engages in research with particular interests in regenerative health, mobile technology, ortho biologics, and extracorporeal shock wave treatment for musculoskeletal conditions. In his leisure time, he enjoys playing guitar, woodworking, cooking, and reading.
Dr. Mareena Miller is a dedicated board-certified Nurse Practitioner with extensive expertise in Non-surgical and Injectable Cosmetic Procedures, Pain Management, and Regenerative Medicine. As a co-founder and Chief Financial Officer of M Bone and Joint, she brings a unique blend of passion and professionalism to her practice.
Originally hailing from Kerala, India, Mareena's deep appreciation for natural beauty has been a guiding force throughout her life. At the age of 11, she immigrated to California, where her intellect and competitive spirit propelled her academic success. Following high school, Mareena enlisted in the U.S. Army, serving with distinction for nine years, including a deployment in Iraq during Operation Iraqi Freedom. Her military service was marked by numerous accolades, including being honored as Non-Commissioned Officer of the Year.
Mareena's educational journey commenced with a Bachelor of Science in Public Health from California State University of San Bernardino, where she received the prestigious first-place award for Undergraduate Research. She furthered her studies at Azusa Pacific University, earning a Bachelor of Science in Nursing and progressing to the Nurse Practitioner program. Her commitment to excellence was evident as she obtained both her Master's degree and Doctorate, graduating with Honors. Her extensive experience spans various medical specialties, including Emergency Medicine, Critical Care, Pulmonology, Plastic Surgery, and Pain Management. Mareena leverages her acquired knowledge and innate abilities to deliver exceptional care, enriching the lives and well-being of her valued clients.
Beyond her clinical roles, Mareena is a polyglot, fluent in multiple languages. A disabled Army Veteran herself, she actively engages in volunteering with the Disabled American Veterans organization. With a diverse range of interests, from yoga and eclectic music tastes to a love for food, movies, and animals, Mareena embodies a vibrant and dynamic personality. In her personal life, Mareena enjoys time spent with Mitch and their beautiful family, which includes five children, one dog, and a cat.
